26km Swim!

NAC Masters wishes John Kenny the best of luck with his forthcoming swim. Some action pictures of John Kenny during the Channel relay in 2005.

The 26km swim is on August 2nd in Lake Zurich, Switzerland. John competed in the Lough Sheelin 15km swim two weeks ago and came in in atime of 4hr 35 minutes. Which gives you an idea of the length of time he will be spending in the water for the 26km’s.

Here are some action pictures of John Kenny during the Channel relay in 2005. The first 2 photo's with England in sight near the end on Sunday evening at about 8pm. The last photo is John starting the race on the Saturday at 12 midday under the cliffs on Shakespeare beach (He is the little dot on the beach).

Swim Therapy - 24/03/2007

Hi All,

On Saturday morning 24th March Dec and I went off to Leicester to check out the Swim Therapy [actually I kinda convinced Dec to come too as I wanted to go]
We got the flights really cheap…. 1 cent  returns… and could go over and back in one day. They are still available for that amount at the moment.

Anyway we arrived in East Midlands and hired a car for the day €60.00 and off we went.

We were not booked in until around 1 o’clock so off we went to see what Leicester has to offer….. Not much I am afraid.
We got good directions to the Swim Therapy. It is about 5 miles outside Leicester. No problems getting there.

The fun begins with the session. It is in an outside building of a house. In we went and I was surprised with the clever use of space. You have a little area to change with curtains around you so there was no flashing. Then into a shower with soap supplied as conditioners and creams effect the clarity of the water.

Course who had to go first ... yes yours truly had the honour of making an eejit of herself. I was a bit nervous as it is hard to know what to expect.
The coach was great … very helpful and very good looking too. He explained the process of the warm-up and setting the pace in the pool.
Right... plunge in … and feck what do you see first … yourself … as there is a mirror in the pool A little warm up and then he stops the flow

Then he takes you through the four strokes and tapes them.
He then asks you where you want the tuition in. You can break it down to all or one or two depending on the time allocated. I went for the front crawl.
He did give me tips on the other strokes as well.

Anyway He will then tape you again and stop. Give another tip and start you again trying to change using the tips. It is all very relaxed and interesting.

Then Dec’s turn. He changed while I showered off.

He did the same format with Dec also. It was even better looking at Dec swimming. Now I could see the strokes from all angles. He gave Dec some tips too [nobody’s perfect even the coach]. I couldn’t see anything wrong with Declan’s swimming but there again I am not a coach!! Can you teach old dog new tricks… we will see?

Anyway we are getting a DVD each [£7.50 ea] of our strokes to keep and work on our faults.

NO... it is not going up in the web-site.

We have a sample one on the web-site of the type of tuition it is. I really enjoyed it and I will go over again.
We then went off to explore Nottingham and for a bit of Dinner. It is very nice there [loads of shops].
Off to the Airport and home. All in all, a very nice day out.

Siobhan
